Hello Again!
28 Sep 2012
Hello Everybody!
I am currently typing this blog from Los Angeles, i'm sitting in a little recording booth demoing a ridiculous amount of tracks.
I know thats vauge as all hell but i'll elabarote later, there will be a right time to tell more stuff, this is only like, the VERY beginning, almost so much the beginning its not even the beginning? yeah!
Its been a long time since we've played shows and all that but we haven't exaclty been relaxing,
we've spent most of this year in an intense rehersal regieme, demoing a truckload of songs, and just waiting to we have the right idea of what we want to do, which seems like right about now!
So in light of this we're going to road test some of the material we've been rehersing, not all of it, but a set with new material.
Pretty exciting!
Come along, tell us what you think of our new stuff after the show,
after this show we're heading into the studio to record Album #2.
good times.

New Video Darkest Way & Tour!
14 Nov 2011
Hello!
We have a new video for our single Darkest Way, here it is!
We are still on tour with The Vasco Era, its been great so far, a particular highlight was the Western Australia leg of the tour, i found a great record shop called Dada, bought a bunch of new records, i got some from Planet Records too, they have some amazing posters, if your ever in Perth, go to Planet, its opposite a pub called the Flying Scotsman, I THINK! but my memory is terrible, so good luck!
Anyway we still have the Victoria leg to play which should be great fun, Melbourne is at the Hi-Fi which should be fun, The Karova Lounge in Ballarat and Bended Elbow in Geelong and we're playing the Adelaide Uni in South Australia.
Make sure you grab tickets from the "Shows" tab of the website or buy them from the venue.
See you soon! :)

TOUR / TUMBLR CONTEST
21 Sep 2011
Greetings!
We hope you're all very well. We are well. We've just come off tour with Kaiser Chiefs and The Vines which has been a bunch of fun.
Summer seems to be here and to coincide with this we're very excited to announce that we are going ON TOUR again this Oct/Nov, AND that it's going to be a DOUBLE HEADLINER with The Vasco Era, who are from Melbourne. They're good. Very good.
Here is a photo of us together, hanging out.

and here is a picture of the poster so you can see the dates...

we're also running a cool contest and you can win a nice Epiphone Les Paul Studio guitar, all you have to do, is film your self doing a solo, with a guitar or anything (kazzoo, wine glass, twirling a pipe real fast so it whistles, whatever?) all entry info is at our TUMBLR -> http://papavs.tumblr.com/
the best one, wins!
we've asked some of the guitarists we love to give some examples, here is The Doctor from Frenzal Rhomb and the triple j airwaves, doing a solo that i think personally is better than the actual one!
And here is Lachlan Caskey from Last Dinosaurs, doing a massive "shred" tapping included!
Hope to see you all at the shows. Tickets on sale this Friday. They will be available in the "Shows section"
With all our love, PVP.
Well hello there! Long time no speak!
04 Aug 2011
Hello there!
p.s, apoligies in advance, my spelling isn't too great, but you know what im saying. anyway!
sorry i haven't written a blog in so long, i have been basically swallowed by busyness, we've been rehersing very hard for our upcoming tours, i haven't stopped writing and recording new demos since the album came out, i basically live in a recording studio now, beds next to a mixer, no lie! Been collecting outboard gear too which is fun, my plan is to make my flat look like a NASA control room, when it's at that level ill post a photo :)
Anyway, we've had lots happen since our album came out which is rad, we got picked for Feature album on Triple J which has been amazing, people have said nice things about it too which is always reasurring. the last tour we did the whole East Coast sold out and had packed out venues on the West as well, (Fremantle was a favorite, you guys are something else!!!), which im guessing people heard our record cause of the radio which is great, so pleased we had an audience! We got to play at River Sessions in Mackay as well, such a pretty place, never been there before so that was a highlight, we had a really nice crowd there too <3 xxx
We have alot of footage we will be releasing soon of tour antics, and there was alot of those...
We took crowd photos at some of the shows, you all look so beautiful!

Hello Melbourne!!!

Hello Sydney!!!

Hello Brisbane!

Hello Mackay!
Also!
we've released a videoclip for the song HONEY, its pretty crazy, watch here
we took a camera with us on filming too and made a "Behind The Scenes" video,
which the website "THE MUSIC" are premiering on their site -> http://themusic.com.au/newsletter/exclusive-papa-vs-pretty-behind-the-scenes.

We also played at the APRA music awards which was pretty cool, we we're asked to play a cover version of the Angus & Julia Stone song "Big Jet Plane" which was the Song Of The Year at the awards night,
we made it a tad louder.
Watch here!
I guess that sort of brings us up to speed, if you follow our facebook -> http://www.facebook.com/papavspretty
or twitter -> http://twitter.com/papavspretty
you'll be up to speed ALL the time! ;)
Anyway, right now we're on Tour with the Kaiser Chiefs, we played the Canberra show last night, Melbourne is tommorow and Sydney is on Saturday. Much fun to be had. We have new shirts for sale at shows too,
Here is one of them! Its one of the drawings i did on the L.P which you can buy on itunes, its an Interactive Album mind map video game crazy thing i designed with a cool company from England called VERTPIXELS (http://vertpixels.wordpress.com/) There's a demo of how it works in the previous blog entry...
The shirt has "We Know No Accidents" written on it, which is from the chorus of the song Bitter Pill.

anyway, thats about all for now, will blog more regularly i promise!

United In Isolation.
28 May 2011
Hello!
Our album came out yesterday, it was a pretty terrific day, we spent alot of it on cockatoo island, then played at a ping pong bar till about 3am, no joke! My whole body hurts now from too much ping pong, im clearly not athletic at all.
Anyway, it feels pretty good to have the record yeah, there will be reviews popping up know as well as a few articles here and there so keep your eyes out.
There's been some cool displays of the artwork in some record stores too, mainly Red Eye and some HUM stores i think, here's a picture of the window in Red Eye, pretty scary to see that staring at you if you where just on a casual stroll haha .

You can also stream the album on full, all you have to do is click the "stream album" button right next to the blog,
it will post a "you are listening to our album" thing on either your facebook or twitter, you choose! tricky!
OUR LP is also out, which you can get on Itunes, its an interactive version of the album
using a bunch of drawings i did, i helped design it with the guys from Vertpixles who did the LP for the Gorrilaz Plastic Beach, Grinderman, Joy Division a whole lot of cool people, twas alot of fun as im a computer fan at heart.
Here's a little youtube video showing you sort of how it works.
The record is also in shops as well, so go to your nearest record store and find one, if they don't have it demand it!
if they don't like that, order one off JB Hi Fi haha, its all good!
Also i hope all the people that made the preorder enjoy there "Memoirs From A Bedroom" (Issue 1) EP, we will be doing quite alot of these issues as time goes on, but they will always be in limited supply, so i hope its all worth it!
hope to see you at the next tour, we have some other exciting news under wraps but you'll hear about it soon.
tremendous!

Hitting The Road Again.
07 May 2011
Hello All!
As you may or may not know, we are going to hit the road again in celebration of our new record.
We'll be playing in some new venues too which is always exciting, and we're also coming to YOU perth, for our first headline shows in WA. Cool! The only times we've been there before is with Dempsey and at the One Movement Festival. So it will be grand to play! Fremantle as well, i love that place and i've only been there twice.
Anyway, we're very excited to show you all the new material and hopefully get some moshing going on, that can't hurt right?
Tremendous, here's the poster featuring the Mona Bear painting which is the Front Cover of the album done by Dirk Larsen.
Go to the shows section of the website for ticket info.
Also,
If you if you haven't preordered the album, and your into cool extras, the record comes with a BONUS EP,
these will be in limited supply and are only with the preorders.
Its basically a 7 track EP featuring songs that i've recorded at home, i've made alot of records at home while writing
so thought it might be cool to release some of that stuff. The Bonus EP is called "Memoirs From A Bedroom (Issue 1)" why issue 1? cause i plan on releasing quite a few of these, there's alot of stuff sitting on my harddrives waiting to be heard. Its all fairly different too. This first issue features a collection of 7 songs, some which we used to play at gigs way back in the day, some demos that never made the Heavy Harm EP and some stuff that didn't fit United In Isolation.
if you want to preorder you can do so here -> http://bit.ly/jaRnQ2
can't wait to show ya'll.

Howdy all, Happy easter!
as i am typing to this i am sitting in my bedroom, apple core to my left, cup of tea to my right. very good.
In front of me obviously is my laptop, but thats not really that interesting...
anyway, i thought it would be about time i write a blog considering i haven't done so since the "One Of The Animals" single came out, which seems like a long time but i could be wrong i have a terrible sense of time.
So, in the space of time between then and now a video has been made for the "One of the Animals" song,
We also wrapped up our tour with Last Dinosaurs, we had a blast screaming up and down the freeways in a big white van with those guys, many memories where made thats for sure. The shows where great fun too, Melbourne & Sydney sold out which was great, thankyou to anybody who came along to see us both. It meant alot to all of us :)
It was amazing to go to places we've never been to either and have rooms fill up with people jumping around and singing the songs, its very strange to write something in a room by yourself then go somewhere hundreds of kilometres from your room then go to a venue and have people singing a long. Very nice, we appreicate everybody who made it such a fun time. thankyou!
Here are some happy snaps from the road.

How much can you fit in the van? / Tom photobombing, which one though, it is uncertain we both look pretty stupid... haha

i think we ended up putting more things in here, plus live people. wow!

tom (pictured) me and gus are off to the side, watching Last Dinosaurs soundcheck,
in Ed Castle, which strangley enough is a resteraunt when its not a club... that soups not loud enough, louder..

Our turn to soundcheck, last dinosaurs watch on, sam bites his finger, "good on em ya know!"

here is a picture of us and the dinos crew, selling out in melbourne. fingers up! cheese! etc.
We've now joined forces and are a rap crew called "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service" expect an album
in the year 2405, it will be huge and we will be robots.
The show at Oxford Arts Factory in Sydney was alot of fun too, felt so good to be home after spending so much time all around the country. I found this on youtube, its footage from the show at OAF shot by someone in the Audience, thought it looked kind of cool. We had alot of fun that night! There's footage of me falling of the bass drum that night as well, which is pretty good if your into funniest home video style laughs haha.
Oh also,
OUR ALBUM COMES OUT THIS MAY! hurah! 27th of May 2011, pen it your diary put it in your iphone, ipad, laptop, computer, casio, whatever.
The artwork has been revealed too by the kind folks at Pages Digital,
check it out here -> http://www.pagesdigital.com/exclusive-papa-pretty-album-reveal/
there's going to be a crazy interactive version of the album too, but thats under wraps for now.
We'll be touring again as well to support the album, so stay tuned for the dates.
lots of love - <3 x thr

Wrecking Ball
31 Jan 2011
Howdy!
We're super thrilled to put out the new video for "Wrecking Ball" its directed by a friend of ours Guy Verge Wallace, it's one of the best clips we've ever had put together for one of our songs so we are amazingly thrilled for it!
I could try and describe it but the best way to put it would be to say its LIVE SIZE CLAYMATION... its pretty insane, in the best way imaginable.
Have a watch!
Studio Blog # 1 - Photos, Beginning
11 Jan 2011
Hello!
We're in the studio!
3rd day to be precise was the day today and things are traveling super well, we're recording at BJB in Surry Hills which feels fantastic there is such an awesome vibe in the place and the people who run it are fantastic, its seriously great. We've tracked half of the bed tracks already, been doing overdubs today, tracking so many guitar parts its not funny and we're in the studio for the rest of the month and some of Feburary so its super early days and its already sounding huge. The drums sound massive, we got so much choice too. So many amps, kits, guitars. Its pretty crazy like a kid in a candy shop, but you gotta be reserved have your wits about you and only record what's needed/works not everything thats there haha.
Much excitment, anyway have some photos to share with you from the first day, going to upload some videos tomorrow night of the studio so you can get a better idea of what we're up too.
Here goes,
PHOTOS WITH CAPTIONS!!!
A mixing desk about a billion times the size of mine at home. Awesome. Wish you could see all the outboard gear, its crazy so many nice compressors, preamps and other goodies will film some on the flip tomorrow and chuck it up here.

Some of the guitars we've been using.

Some of the pedals we've been playing around with. NOTE: The yellow long pedal that says "FUZZ" is apparently
the same type of pedal the Stones use for Satisfaction, its tremendous.

Gus's bass tone will make you cry. Its also borderline "Salmon", like his shirt in the previous post, i dare you to compare.
Use that little eyedropper tool in photoshop, i bet its not far from salmon, i put my money on it. i would!

The first thing coming to mind seeing this, considering its late and im pretty shit at captioning stuff without being increadbly literal is that this particular microphone, looks alot like a large industrialized metal paracetamol capsule that giant robots would down with a glass of acid for roboheadaches.

My favorite shirt, "Gareth Liddiard" shirt i got from his solo show at OAF, if you havent heard the drones, listen to them, they are. the best. My face is also photobombing that lovely bass cab.

Tom choosing snares. Duct tape also fixes wierd snare sounds as well as buttons that make clicky noises on acoustic guitars, duct tape is the future of man.

Group concern session infront of a curtain.

Apologies if my blog is incoherent, not funny or just poorly put together after a full day in the studio i feel pretty tired!
Looking foward to tommorow though, can't wait to do some more over dubs, even get some vocals done. Its taking shape,
ahhhhghh its alive etc etc
Hope your all well and good & all our wishes to all of the folks in Queensland braving the floods we have friends and relatives up there so we hope all clears up soon. Nature is a scary thing sometimes. ]

Two Thousand & Eleven
27 Dec 2010
Heyo,
Christmas has come and gone (Hope all of yours was very merry and of the good variety) i know mine was pretty cheerfull.
Its been a pretty good year too, its kind of wierd I always forget alot of the things we've done cause i'm too busy thinking about what we should be doing or what we're about to be doing, always looking foward. At least i try too most of the time haha. But yeah Christmas eve was a pretty relaxing one i took a break from writing for the day (i usually write every day) so that was an interesting change, was wierd cause my brain got time to have a think about whats actually happened, rather than whats coming up.
Heavy Harm's reception has been pretty cool also, it was fantastic to have it on the radio (Triple J, FBi, RRR, ZZZ etc) which has given us the chance to play more headline shows to more people, even in different states. Something I still find slightly surreal. It was great working and touring with Dempsey as well, learnt more this year than i have in alot them. Touring too! we only started touring in December of 09 so its just been about a year, which is great. Got to play & tour with some of our favorite bands like Surfer Blood, Phoenix, You Am I, Temper Trap, Tame Impala, Silversun Pickups, Gypsy & The Cat, The Holidays, The Howling Bells I can't really remember them all, its pretty overwhelming so i generally forget about it and think about whats coming haha. We got to go to the ARIA's too which was pretty interesting to say the least haha "De-butt". amazing...
Anyway, past aside we have some REALLY exciting things coming up, this Wednesday (29/12/10) we head down to the Glennworth Valley to play at the PEATS RIDGE festival, which is pretty exciting cause we're playing in the evening too, near the end of the night. Crazy! Then we head down to Phillip Island to play at Pyramid Rock for NYE, then Hot Hot Heat side shows, then we hit the STUUUDDDDIO to start recording our "de-butt" album, only leaving the studio to play at the Big Day Out and to play with the Birds Of Tokyo. If you want tickets for any of our shows just head to the "TICKETS" section and he'll sort you out.
Here's one of the songs we've been working on, its called Honey, this was shot by the fantastic "One A Day" Blog, from our headline show at OAF.
We've finished writing our album (recorded a full demo version of it too) and it feels extremely, overwhelmingly exciting to get to put on tape. We're heading into the famed BJB for most of Janurary and for some of Feburary to track the record.
In the spirit of us getting ready, today Gus and I spent the day scoring extra parts for the record, making notes on what we need to do ect, even scoring some string parts, Gus is really great at all that theroy stuff, i can't even read music!!! So he puts me to shame hah, check out these action shots! This is my room btw where i record alot of my demos.

Again, this time rocking out on the keys, check out that shirt, its "Salmon".

Anyway hope to see you at one of the gigs soon and hope your NYE celebrations are safe and wonderfull.

Whoa, good things etc.
06 Dec 2010
Hello there friend!
I feel quite, how to put it. Somewhat like a hermit i guess, been writing lots and lots of music for the album, its pretty much completed i just keep writing incase anything better than what already is written for it comes along. Anyway i guess its kind of good to spend alot of time by yourself, especially when writing puts everything in a strange but good perspective.
Anyway, we've been playing our own headline shows this month and its been great, we where next cropped for Aus Music month by Triple J for our song "Wrecking Ball" (check out the unofficial robocop video below a friend made for us, its quite hilarious). So to celebrate us being put in the lucky 20, we played 2 headline shows, one in Melbourne at the East Brunswick Club and another in Sydney at the famed Oxford Arts Factory. It was great both shows where full and it felt fantastic to play to busy rooms for our OWN shows, especially that we've been doing so many support slots it really feels a bit surreal when you step on stage and you realize people are they're too see you. not going to lie, its a pretty amazing feeling!
Anyway, oh actually also if you want to hear the song on JJJ and feel like you control the radio you can REQUEST that song on super request!
head here to make the request -> http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/requests/make_a_request.htm
we also did an interview for this weeks BRAG MAGAZINE, which is pretty cool our name was on the front cover and everything. (*cheers*) anyway have a looksie.

(if you can't read the text cause of size head
over here -> http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/papavspretty/thebraginterview.jpg)
anyway chat soon, im gonna post some pictures of the room im writing in soon too, cause its full of gadgets and too be honest looks like the control room of a NASA space station or a tardis. OH also where on the BIG DAY OUT lineup for the second Sydney show, so excited for this! Get to see Iggy Pop after all, Iggy and Die Antwoord, oh yeah!

Things & Film Music
09 Nov 2010
We've had a pretty interesting week, well mainly Sunday... We went to the arias, it was a pretty unusual experience lots of funny outfits and intense folks but none the less it was alright! They had fireworks, i love fireworks. Although they where in a pretty weird place, its strange how off kilter things made for TV seem in real life. Although i heard it looked fairly strange on TV too, but the opera house looked nice so that was cool. We we're just guests to the whole thing this year, we got a cool mention in the Sunday Telegraph about next year maybe good times! which is nice!

Here's us being tourists to our own band name on the wall at the after party haha

I also did the music for one of Nirrimi Hakanson's films, its just a little film but it was alot of fun to do the music to. I really love doing film music and shes a good friend so it made it all the more fun. I wrote it too the edit rather than the edit being synced to the soundtrack which was interesting too, means it had to be free of tempo or any kind of mechanical beat. I had to record it watching the movements of color trying to structure the melodies around the visual, which was ALOT of fun, made it a really fluid process. I really want to do more of that kind of thing.
Here is is for your viewing nice watching!
tender hearted from nirrimi hakanson on Vimeo.
have a splendid week!
also don't forget where playing two headline shows, one in Melbourne on the 1st of December with Stonefield and Fuzz Phantoms and another at Oxford Arts Factory on the 2nd of December, get tix from the "SHOWS" section of the webpage.
good times!

01 Nov 2010
Howdy!
We've been rehersing new songs all week and frankly it feels quite great, been writing alot too. Im keen to start posting acoustic demos up on here somehow, but still have to figure out how possible that is and even if it would be that interesting haha, anyway.
Whilst we've been rehersing and working hard on new songs we we're thrilled to hear that we got picked to be part of Triple J's NEXT CROP artists, of which their are 20 featuring bands like Stonefield, Kimbra, Gypsy & The Cat, Flight Facilities, The Jezabels and a whole lot of other cool bands.
check it all out here -> http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/events/ausmusicmonth/10/nextcrop/
We did an interview for JMAG as well, although I (Tom Rawle) answered the questions not Tom Myers, something must of got lost along the editing chain, but all good!

Also I've been listening to alot of "JAMES" if you havent heard them seriosly check them out, i used to listen to them when i was alot younger, back in primary school. Good times, not really... but they are now!
till next time! xx - thr
Post, Post Paradise. Big December! Little November.
28 Oct 2010
Hello,
We are currently in Post, post paradise, The Holidays tour has come to a close, ending and the wonderful "Jive Bar" in Adelaide. Tour times we're of the fun variety. We have some goodies for you too, in video form. An interview/discussion type thing we did with The Holidays just before we hit the road with them and some live videos taken with our shows with Gypsy & The Cat.
We also played One Movement this month and got a rad mention in the Daily Telegraph, we we're "Searing" , i threw and broke my guitar as well. Downside was that was the only guitar tuned in regular tuning that i had on touring, so not so cool after all! Also i worry it may of looked a tad half assed, you can't win all guitar throws after all i guess! afterallafterallafterall i said that like 4 times. great!

Head over to FASTERLOUDER to see us showing off our talking skills with The Holidays! Talkin it up. link here -> http://bit.ly/dr4Dez
AND here is some footage of us playing some songs live at OAF, goodtimez!
Heavy Harm - Live at Oxford Art Factory from Papa Vs Pretty on Vimeo.
I Still Believe In Us - Live at Oxford Art Factory from Papa Vs Pretty on Vimeo.
Anyway as you can see with all this Little November big December sstuff, well we're taking a little break from gigs this November to rehearse new songs, do some experimenting and basically getting ready to record our album, but December we shall return with a VENGEANCE!
As soon as the mean month begins we'll be playing shows. First up, two headline shows, one in the wonderful city of Melbourne at The East Brunswick Club. We're super excited to play this show as Stonefield (unearthed high winners & recently booked for Glastonbury 2011) & Fuzz Phantoms (featuring Darren Cordeux from Kisschasy) are also joining us for the evening. Should be grand!
Then the day after we're heading to Sydney to play the Oxford Arts Factory to headline their final showcase show of the year.
Exciting times! Then we play Peats Ridge, then Pyrimad Rock, then a mini tour with Canadian rock 'n' rollers Hot Hot Heat.
crazy! Show details and ticket info is in the "Shows" Tab, check it yo.

Update, bam.
21 Oct 2010
Hello!

Surfer Blood support Review - Fasterlouder
09 Aug 2010
We got a cool review from FASTERLOUDER from our Melbourne show with Surfer Blood.
"First to take the stage were Papa Vs Pretty, a young band down from Sydney for what was also their first Melbourne show. Through chunky riffs and tearing vocals, they opened their set ablaze with a fiery spirit. Reference points abounded thick and fast, mostly headed towards the heavy rock canon, with some early Radiohead in the mix. The most impressive thing about them was the conviction, which was so powerful that conviction doesn’t quite describe it so well: they were in the kind of place where it’s happening so natural, it’s just there, and it doesn’t have anything to do with self-confidence. Being extremely tight as a band obviously helps, and this fact was really exhilarating to begin with, but after a while became a bit mercenary. All that hammering forth looked over-serious, but then came the single, Heavy Harm, and that really shone. Definitely a band to watch."
Heres some photos from our support sets at their Splendour Sideshows.

This is by far my favorite, us playing Marracas on stage with Surfer Blood at the Corner show in Melbourne.
Great band & great guys, we hope to tour with them again someday soon.

18 Jul 2010
Howdy!
As promised, here is the latest public performance gig. This one was by far the most nerve racking, shortly after stepping on the bus (after about 2 hours of procrastination) and heading up to the back seats, we realized we we're sitting next to two very tough looking lads. Just quietly this scared the hell out of us, we assumed as soon as we produced instruments and started singing we would get the life beat out of us. But to our surprise they where nice as pie and got into it!
It felt pretty nice to get an applause as well, this to me anyway is my favorite of these.
Again, filmed by the spectacular Nirrimi Hakanson (http://www.weliveyoung.blogspot.com/)

Live from a (really long) Escalator
12 Jul 2010
Howdy All!
We have had a very busy week, played at Sydney Sounds Like "Choose Your Own Adventure" gig at The Factory Theatre, which felt fantastic. It felt nice to play to such a full and responsive crowd, awesome atmosphere as well. Was great to see everybody out to support FBi, those guys do amazing things to create events like these and to bring some of the coolest new music to the world. Good people indeed!
Our new "Live From ... " video is up, we played a rather spontaneous cover of Bryan Adams 80s classic super ballad, HEAVEN. Where else better to play such an EPIC song, than the gigantic escalator in the Sydney Domain carpark. We we're watched by a confused security officer who probably thought we where some kind of new breed of musical terrorists.
The video comes complete with incorrect lyrics and awkward/confused onlookers.
Filmed by the glorious Nirrimi Hakanson (http://weliveyoung.blogspot.com/)
Enjoy! x

Hello everybody!
Apologies that this post is two days late, but as promised here is the video for our somewhat public (in Chinatown) rendition of Outkast's "Hey Ya".

Live from... / "Heavy Harm" / FBi
01 Jul 2010
Howdy!
Hope all is well,
we have some news for you.
FIRST, we have been collaborating with the acclaimed Photographer Nirrimi Hakanson
(check her blog, its quite fantastic -> http://weliveyoung.blogspot.com/). We we're hanging out in Central Sydney a little while ago and we bumped into a busker who was playing his own music outside Central Station. He had these amazing lyrics written all over his guitar, so we started talking to him. He turned out to be quite an interesting guy, guess thats what happens when you talk to strangers.
Anyway after a conversation a crane crew came up to us and started playing on the guitar, it started getting passed around. The rest is video history!
After this happened I felt like anything is possible, so i talked to Myers and Gus and we decided we would hit the streets and play some of our favorite songs in strange locations out in public.
We will be posting a new video every week, but first up we're posting the video the started the idea.
ENJOY :)
While My Guitar Gently Weeps (The Beatles Cover) Live from the Park from Papa Vs Pretty on Vimeo.
ALSO
In other news, our song "Heavy Harm" which comes of our new EP of the same title is on rotation on both Triple J and FBi so if you want to request it, by all means go ahead. Otherwise tune in and you may just hear it by accident :)
We're also playing at FBi's Sydney Sounds Like... Choose Your Own Adventure" gig at the Factory Theatre and its All Ages!

Cloud Control, The Holiday and a whole lot of great bands are playing, most importantly though its supporting great local radio.
So get your dancing shoes on and "make a purchase" on a ticket

New Recording's
27 Feb 2010
Howwdy,
We have just finished tracking our new EP, so we thought now is a good time to shed some light on the record!
First of all the EP is being produced by "Something For Kate's" Paul Dempsey and is being recorded at Alberts Studios in Sydney.
The EP has 6 songs, most of which you wont of heard before, the majority of which we have only played at two shows, but we've been rehearsing and writing intensely for the last 2 months and have found the direction we want to go in. So we are pretty excited to release this EP!
Working with Paul has been incredible as well, his experience as a songwriter gave us an invaluable second set of ears, that helped give the songs better shape and more impact.
We took some photos while we where in the studio as well,
have a look! there's more photos in the photo section of the website. Hurah!

A while back, actually when this website went live, a film clip was made for the song "Citizen #1". The clip was directed by Ben Wilson for a film school experiment. Ben's the same guy who directed the "Ballad" film clip and the "From the Bunker" series.

Direction Direction Direction.
04 Feb 2010
Yo,
If you've heard alot of our stuff, you would of probably made the observation that we jump around genres alot, its never been intentional though, its kind of just how we've functioned, exploring every avenue trying to get our own sound. But after years of writing in different styles on different instruments in all different ways, we have finally started to get our own sound.
It has taken a long time, but it feels liberating to finally have direction. It's a bit of a heavier and stripped back sound, and has a big focus on vocal harmonies. All 3 of us are singing now.
So in light of this discovery we are getting ready to record a new EP, we've been rehearsing, demoing and writing like crazy and it's starting to cement itself into something cool.
Heres some pictures of us rehearsing/demoing, sweaty timez!

So keep your eyes and ears peeled cause we'll be documenting our progress and posting it up here.

THE CORNER
06 Dec 2009
Last night was good, we played at The Corner in Melbourne. Some highlights of the day included:
-Tom R's comparison of the Oporto Strips and Chips meal to its Nando's equivalent. Consensus was reached that Oporto produces 'sweeter' chicken breast flavours, whilst Nando's culinary produce was described as 'more spicy', 'mature' and 'yum'. Chip seasoning was also discussed.
-Great sound, stage, and crowd at the Corner. We felt great after a slightly awkward gig in Geelong last night.
-My energetic spell following a strong cappucino this afternoon. It was embarassing. Whilst no-one was adversely affected, I'd take this opportunity to point out to the population of Melbourne that scat singing and star jumps on footpaths are not usual activities of mine.
-Ongoing profundity from Tom M. Seriously, that guy knows a bagful of facts about lions, fierce snakes and their movement, and is a specialist in voice imitation. If you ever want to spice up a car trip get yourself a Tom M.
The gig was great tonight ! My cousin even came! Unfortunately we couldnt stay for Howling Bells since Tom M is only 17 so we still have to get kicked out straight after we play, but we caught their soundcheck and they're superb!
Esplanade Hotel tomorrow. Should be great! We're on very late at like 11:45 pm but someone told us that that is quite early for a band in Melbourne. Its the city that never sleeps. I dont dig it. I think it's the city that sometimes sleeps.
Hope youre all well and that if youve just found yourself on holidays or finished work for the year that you're having yourself some fun. thanks for reading!
